Towel Care Guide

Keep Your Towels Soft, Fluffy, and Long-Lasting

At Elan Distributors, we believe that luxury towels deserve proper care to preserve their softness, absorbency, and colour for years. Follow these simple care guidelines to maintain the quality and feel of your towels.

General Care

  • Wash towels at 60°C — this temperature eliminates most bacteria and provides a deep, hygienic clean.
  • For white towels, you may use a small amount of oxygen-based bleach to brighten the fabric.
  • Avoid chlorine bleach on coloured towels — it damages fibres and causes discolouration.
  • Do not iron your towels. Ironing flattens the loops that make towels soft and absorbent. If necessary, use a cool setting.
  • Treat stains immediately using a mild stain remover or gentle detergent.
  • When tumble drying, do not exceed 60°C — this temperature helps restore fluffiness and protects the pile.
  • Use fabric softeners sparingly. Overuse can leave a waxy coating that reduces absorbency and creates a greasy feel.
  • Avoid contact with benzoyl peroxide (found in some hair dyes and skincare products), which can bleach and discolour towels.

Care for Dyed Towels

  • Always wash bright or deep-coloured towels separately during their first few washes.
  • A small amount of excess dye may release initially — this is normal and will not affect the towel’s long-term colour.
  • Avoid bleach of any kind, and rinse thoroughly to remove all detergent and remaining dye.
  • Remember: even the finest dyes have natural limitations. With proper care, your towels will maintain their colour and quality for years.

Machine Washing Tips

To extend the lifespan of your towels, use moderate wash settings.
Excessive wear and shrinkage can occur when using:

  • Overloaded wash cycles
  • Long washing durations
  • Strong detergents
  • High water temperatures
  • Harsh bleaching agents

When using softener, remember:

“A little goes a long way.”
Use softener only when towels start to feel rough — and follow the manufacturer’s minimum dosage.

Chlorine bleach can weaken towel fibres over time. Instead, use oxygen-based whiteners or spot-treat stains before washing.

Always wash new towels before first use — this removes manufacturing residue, restores fluffiness, and enhances absorbency.

Drying and Finishing

Overdrying is one of the main causes of towel damage. It can lead to:

  1. Greying of fabric.
  2. Hardness or roughness of texture.

To prevent this:

  • Start drying on a low temperature and finish with a cool cycle.
  • Avoid drying completely “bone dry.” Towels should retain a small moisture content of 4–6% for best softness and shape.
  • Once over-dried, towel fibres lose elasticity, causing them to appear dull or feel harsh.
  • Proper drying helps the terry loops lift and regain their natural fluff.

A general shrinkage of up to 7% is standard for terry towels. However, our high-quality weaving process limits shrinkage to just 2–4%, ensuring long-lasting performance.

Stain Removal

For tough stains like oils, makeup, and tea, blot gently and treat promptly with a mild detergent or approved stain remover before washing. Avoid excessive scrubbing, which can damage the towel fibres.

Final Care Tip

Treat your towels with the same care you give to fine linen — wash regularly, avoid high heat, and use gentle products. With the right care, your towels will stay soft, fluffy, and beautiful wash after wash.
